SURAG Medical successfully closes pre-seed financing round and takes further steps to bring audio-based assistance systems to improve safety, precision and efficiency in minimally invasive procedures into clinical practice. In addition to several industry experts, Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen is also participating in the financing round.
SURAG Medical GmbH, an emerging medical technology startup, is pleased to announce the successful closing of its pre-seed financing round. With the fresh capital, SURAG Medical believes it is in a strong position to further develop its innovative technology and establish it in clinical practice in the future. The financing round marks a significant milestone for the company and will enable SURAG Medical to make minimally invasive procedures safer, more precise and more efficient for medical staff as well as patients.
As the first worldwide, SURAG’s technology allows non-invasive and continuous monitoring of minimally invasive procedures to make them more precise and increase patient safety. The technology is based on the use of vibroacoustic signals that are naturally generated in the instrument during the procedure. SURAG has developed a system that can pick up these signals and extract relevant information from them to assist physicians by providing real-time navigation support. At the same time, the SURAG technology can be used with standard instruments and systems already in use and is much more cost-effective and flexible than comparable approaches. Real-time feedback is expected to decrease complication rates and reduce treatment time. Planned areas of application include minimally invasive needle interventions, laparoscopic surgery and, in particular, medical robotics. The company is convinced that its products will open up completely new use cases, particularly in robotics, and thus herald a new era.
In the course of the financing round now concluded, Moritz Spiller will be appointed as a further managing director alongside Dr. Alfredo Illanes and the company headquarters will be relocated to Leipzig. The founding team consisting of the two managing directors, as well as Nazila Esmaeili and Thomas Sühn, would like to thank the investors who have shown confidence in the company and its visionary goals. The financing round was led by a group of renowned investors who recognized the potential of audio-based sensor technology. These include TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen, JOBEST GmbH, Prof. Dr. med. Patrick Schuler, Eric-Michael Dokter and Richard Reiber, as well as existing investors Dr. Axel Boese and Prof. Dr. Michael Friebe.
“SURAG Medical’s intraoperative plug-and-play feedback technology enhances conventional medical instruments with real-time sensor data, opening up an enormous range of applications and further potential for smart medical interventions. At TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen, we are proud to be part of this groundbreaking development as an investor,” comments Oliver Latz, Senior Investment Manager at TGFS. “We are confident that SURAG Medical will become a leader in the industry and drive positive change in healthcare.”
“We are extremely grateful for the trust and support we have received from our investors. This successful pre-seed funding round reinforces our vision to bring audio-based assistance systems to clinical practice to improve patient safety and treatment outcomes,” said Moritz Spiller, co-founder and CEO of SURAG Medical. “With the funding we receive, we will intensify our development efforts and further optimize our technologies to make a lasting impact on patient well-being.”
SURAG Medical is proud of the successful completion of the pre-seed funding round and looks forward to a promising future. The company will continue to work closely with its medical partners and is committed to becoming a leader in the industry and bringing about positive change in healthcare.
